Don’t compare your chapter 1 to someone else’s chapter 20. Nothing good ever comes out of comparing yourself from someone you think is better than you. So be proud of what you like to do, and don’t let others pull you down.
I’m saying this because I got pulled down when I compared myself to my friend. She’s taken mandatory art classes since she was little  (it wasn’t a hobby; it was more of something your parents force you to do, like piano lessons), and she’s also generally had more practice in art. I also started drawing since I was little because I loved drawing, but I never took art classes. So when I met her in fifth grade, she was already a bunch of chapters ahead of me.
We made deviantART accounts at the end of 6th grade and both started taking art pretty seriously in 7th grade. Of course, we started out as pretty bad amateurs, but we improved a lot over the year. She picked up skills and improved more quickly than I did, so eventually she left me behind at a lower level. I started comparing my art to hers, and I thought it was a lot better than mine. I began to think, “if she can draw better than I can, then why am I still trying?” I compared my lower level to her higher level so much, and I felt like I was sinking down into a pit. Everyone loved the art she posted, and I even started to feel that all my friends secretly thought that her art was a lot better than mine.
A few months later, I lost interest in deviantART and stopped digitally drawing from late May to November (that’s a 6 month hiatus). After November, I realized that I drew because I loved doing it. I didn’t need to compete with my friend or compare my art to hers. I could draw because I wanted to, and that was enough.
What I’m trying to say is that if you compare your own skills to another person’s, it will destroy you. When I began comparing my art to my friend’s, I almost quit drawing. I learned that there will always be someone better than you, but you should never stop doing something you love because of that. If you love what you do, you should never quit and you should never compare yourself to someone who’s better than you are.
